"HiFi" is an ongoing project about the Filipino immigrant experience within the confines of Historic Filipinotown, a district that rests in the middle of two rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods, Echo Park and Silver Lake. It is home to young Filipino immigrants who are transitioning into adulthood within a cultural environment so starkly different from the one they grew up in. The neighborhood retains details that remind of home, mostly of its religion—little symbols of an enduring faith in Catholicism, even from thousands of miles away.
